This and
That for Monday
~~~
In the believe it or not department, Mike Huckabee says he is mulling a 2016
campaign for president.
In
words which could not be construed as an announcement, to keep him eligible to
remain on air under Federal Communications Commission rules, he acknowledge he
is considering such a run.
Let’s
see if the early bird catches the worm.
A recent Quinnipiac poll on the current Michigan Republican Primary finds Rick
Santorum back in the lead. Santorum leads Mitt Romney by a 35-29 margin with
45% of the respondents undecided.
A
Santorum win makes him a serious contender going into Super Tuesday next week.
Romney took it upon himself to declare he would win his home state.
My Granddad used to advise me to pick your enemies very carefully. You don’t
tease Dobermans wearing a muzzle, a tigress in her lair with her little one
present and I could add Alan Dershowitz to the list. He is a bull dog I’d
rather have as an ally.
He’s
an unabashed liberal who fights very hard for his causes. He is also someone
with a very serious sense of justice who will alike on friends, allies and foes
alike.
Professor
Dershowitz says he’s declaring war on the left-wing, George Soros-financed
website Media Matters for America over its depiction of Israel. And Dershowitz
says he’s going to make it into a re-election issue for President Obama.
Even
the multi-billionaire needs to be aware Dershowitz has zero tolerance for anti-Semites.
While I’m sure Dershowitz would never admit to it, but there’s a bulldog in his
lineage.
My inclination is to support Newt Gingrich in the GOP nomination race and I
find Rick Santorum more than merely acceptable. Old friend Ron Paul worries me
with his blinders on regarding the physical threats to America (I believe we
have a role in the world). As for Mitt Romney, he’s a genuine flip flopper. I
doubt there is anyone who can feel comfortable with his marshmallow spine.
My
biggest problem is not that we’re on opposite sides of some issues, it is can
he be relied upon to keep his word to anyone?
This
space used the name of Flipper for a previous Bay Stator when he ran for
president four years ago, but Romney has John Kerry beat.
He
got trapped by his own Romney care but he can’t escape the fact he burdened
Massachusetts with it so now he keeps repeating the mantra that’s a good thing.
It’s a failure and he would have gained some respect for admitting it and
moving on.
If
you like Obama you’ll love Romney. Neither can be trusted.
I’ve been involved in election campaigns since I was ten when my Dad ran for
the state senate. There are some basics to keep in mind when planning for a
campaign event. The first lesson deals with the selection of a site which will
place your candidate in the best light.
I
learned early the best site was one your candidate could overfill. It always
looks better if the crowd feels like an overflow one. Empty seats are a no-no.
Ford
Field in Michigan is perfect for professional football because it seats 65,000.
It might even be a good venue to rent to celebrate the outcome of a national political
convention. But a run-of-the-mill political speech is not remotely a made for
television event.
No
matter how well you do it will look like a failure even if you had 60,000 in
attendance.
Now
a crowd of a few hundred makes the stadium look like a morgue, a political one.
The
Romneyites recently were badly outnumbered by empty seats.
I just listened to Dick Morris’ lunch time alert. In it he stated unequivocally
Barack Obama will go down in November. He points out a number of factors which
make it so.
If
you have a few minutes here is the link for today’s missive.
He is clear, un-equivocal and directly to the point on the issue.
He is clear, un-equivocal and directly to the point on the issue.
The
Republican will win.
Have
a nice day and we’ll see you tomorrow.
