Wandering thoughts for a Tuesday

I saved the best for last as #15.
1 --- Why is the federal government involved in the control of Marijuana and other substances? Can’t the states make their own decisions?

2 --- Where is the outrage at the US over the genocide in Darfur? Why are the Communist Chinese not putting pressure on their client (large purchaser of Chinese made weapons) to end the genocide? Simple, many in the US and China itself use mass murder to enforce their power (100 million Chinese murdered by Mao and his goons).

3 --- The crook, Sandy Berger is back in politics. The man who stole national security documents from the National Archives is now working in the Hillary campaign for president. I wonder what high level position he will be rewarded with for having stolen the documents.

We’re told by Hillary bum-kissers that what Burger did was benign. No big deal.

This same bum was up to his privates in the China money and technical secrets swaps.

Imagine the outcry from the same crowd if a GOP candidate selected picked up Scooter Libby.

Libby’s crime was far less damaging to the USA and national security than what Berger did.

4 --- On the subject of Hillary, she is walking away from her husband’s NAFTA agreement.

5 --- There are some communities where the leaders (and I would guess a substantial portion of the population) dominated by loony tunes. Alexandria, Virginia is one such community. Here’s the story from today’s Washington Times.
“The city of Alexandria, Va., is expected to pass a resolution tonight renewing its commitment to extend public services to illegal aliens.

“‘We are reaffirming and recommitting our services and outreach to international citizens,’ Mayor William D. Euille, a Democrat, said yesterday.

“The seven-member City Council will vote on a two-page resolution that outlines Alexandria's intent to comply with state and federal immigration laws but not question the immigration status of people seeking public services.

“Mr. Euille said that the resolution should pass unanimously but that Alexandria has no figures on the cost of providing services to illegal aliens.”

Forget guarding the gates, the real enemy is within our borders already.

6 --- Keep a weary eye on the Iraq/Turkey border along the Kurdish region. Ditto for the Iran area with Iraq’s Kurdish region. The Kurds drive has been to unite for hundreds of years. I guess you could say they are the Palestinians of that region. They wish to unite across the borders of Iraq, Turkey and Iran. The problem they have is the oild beneath their territory. The three existing countries don’t want to give up all that potential money.

All this explains the Iraqi Kurds desire to remain part of Iraq. As part of Iraq those Kurds have an umbrella of protection.

Here is an interactive map of the region published by Reuters.

7 --- The New York Sun reports: “Al Qaeda’s Internet communications system has suddenly gone dark to American intelligence after the leak of Osama Bin Laden 's September 11 speech inadvertently disclosed the fact that we had penetrated the enemy's system.”

The release of the information prior to the terrorists doing so themselves tipped them off to the fact we had penetrated their operation.

My guess is there are some dead US operatives in the organization. This will only make recruiting more agents even more difficult than it had been.

8 --- Democrats made political hay by opposing the Iraq War during the last election cycle. However, they are now looking elsewhere for cotes. They are trying to build an agenda that’s heavy on health care, community policing, housing, tax reform and other issues.

Those issues may not be front and center either. There is a growing understanding on the part of the public in general of the illegal immigration issue. It is a dollar and cents issue which affects most of us in a negative way.

Whenever the Democrats talk of health care, for example, the question will be whether we are paying for tens of millions of illegals.

9 --- SCHIP is the cornerstone of liberal ideology and centerpiece of Democrat domestic policy. To listen to the blatherers in Washington not supporting SCHIP will cause us to turn millions of POOR children away from necessary medical care. The Republicans who voted against the SCHIP legislation and now support President’s veto of the bill are cruel and heartless.

Before we all join the lemmings leaping off the cliff lets take a peek at what the new SCHIP legislation did.

The plan already in place covers all children in families below two times the poverty line. Essentially a child eighteen or younger from a family of four earning $41,000 or less is currently covered. The new legislation would double the family income limit of a family of four to more than $83,000. Not only has the income limit been increased, the age limit of the “child” has also been raised to 25.

While the programs are state run they are financed by the federal government and all the rules governing eligibility are in the hands of the feds as well.

One other little horseshoe in this feather pillow is the section mandating this program cover legal and illegal aliens.

Suddenly this bill takes on the aroma of pork.

10 --- A huge internal debate is occurring in Israel. The government of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is discussing the partitioning of Jerusalem. Most Israelis oppose the idea.
According to a Breitbart.com article today: Asked whether Israel should agree to "any sort of compromise on Jerusalem" as part of a final deal to end the decades-old Middle East conflict, 63 percent said no, according to the survey in the mass-selling Yediot Aharonot.

Olmert’s policies are about as popular in Israel as George Bush’s handling of matters here. The Jerusalem issue is creates even more emotions than the illegal immigrant issue does in the US.

As I recall Olmert also led the failed effort in dealing with Hizbollah.

11 --- With the Yankees out on its rear who will be Hillary’s team. Also, we know Rudy is a dyed in the wool Bomber fan so he is no doubt in mourning. I wonder if the loss and likely firing of Joe Torre will have a negative effect on him in today’s GOP debate.

12 --- Jose Medellin confessed in 1993 to participating in the rape and murder of two Houston teenagers. The killers had sodomized and strangled the girls with their shoe laces. Medellin bragged about keeping one girl's Mickey Mouse watch as a souvenir of the crime.

Medellin and four others were convicted of capital murder and sent to Texas' death row. Medellin's younger brother, who was 14 at the time of the murders, was sentenced by a juvenile court to 40 years in prison.

Medellin has been condemned to death in Texas for his part in the torture killings.

At the time of the dastardly crimes he was a Mexican national, hence a serious problem.

The World Court (a United Nations operation) declared the United States faltered when it did not inform Medellin of his right to contact the Mexican Consulate for legal assistance for his trial. The US is a 1963 signatory of Vienna Convention, an international agreement calling for those charged with crimes to contact their government for legal help.

Our good friends, Mexico, took Medellin’s case to The Hague. The court held that Medellin’s rights were ignored.

Texas has taken the position the state is not a party to the 1963 convention the international court’s order has no standing in Texas.

The state of Texas has now taken the case to the US Supreme Court to set aside the Bush Administration’s order to not execute Medellin. It is a sad sight to have the US Justice Department stand by Medellin before the Supreme Court in opposition to Texas.

Randy and Sandra Ertman, the parents of one of Medellin's victims, said: “This case has produced much lofty discussion about international law and the separation of powers. We must not forget, though, that this case is about a real crime against real people. Enough is enough.”

If Bush, Medellin and Mexico win this case before the Supreme Court there will be as many a two hundred murder cases involving Mexican nationals (legal and illegal) that will need to be reviewed and likely retried.

George winds up on the wrong side again.

13 --- First Hillary wants to give each child $5,000 to each child born to start a college education fund (aliens, legal and illegal?). Now she’s pushing for $1,000 per person for a 401K plan (aliens, legal and illegal?). Will she pay for it or would we be the suckers?

14 --- I’ve watched patiently today and I concluder presidential debates are boring, including the debate in Michigan today. Sad to say Fred Thompson was not on his A – game. He’d better get a shake on it and soon. No new ground was covered.

15 --- Bring on the Indians. Red Sox in six.

16 --- And now, something for us to feel good about America. Where do we find such high quality young men and women? Turn up your speakers and click here.
